strip-vertWith its growing popularity and reputation, the Lunesdale Arts Trail has become a significant annual creative event in the calendar of the North West.

William Wordsworth, in his guide to the Lakes, advised travellers to make their approach through the Vale of Lune, saying “the whole tract was pleasing”. Turner was also enchanted by this lovely valley, sketching and painting many of its dramatic features.

Now it is the turn of a select band of artists of the 21st century to exercise their creative minds and revel in the very same environment.

Travelling through the pretty stone-built hamlets with the rough moorland and Pennine hills in the distance, it is possible to meet the individual artists in their different studios and workshops. Insights can be gained into how a particular artist works, see work in progress and discuss the motivation behind their activity. There is also an opportunity to purchase items of work – direct from the maker – paintings, drawings, ceramics, creative glass and textiles.

The next Trail opening will be in May 2017, with studios open on Saturday & Sunday 20th-21st, and on Saturday, Sunday & Spring Bank Holiday Monday 27th-29th.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy the artists’ work by exploring our website.
