	Studio 11   Also Hannah Smeds Davies, Andrew Kay, Zunya Hannah Davies and Loraine Ashcroft In addition to being a highly respected product design consultant with a distinguished career in the world of commerce and industry, David Davies is also a painter of landscape and abstract works. For the last twenty years, his favoured medium has been soft pastels.  "It was approximately twenty years ago that I first started to use soft pastels," he explains. "They proved to be a workable and appealing medium and, as time has gone by and my pictures have become larger, I have achieved interesting results by using thick, heavy bodied water colour papers and large areas of pastel applied by means of sponges.  "Often this means that each colour is in fact a combination of three or four separate colours, rubbed in and blended by the sponge. Marks with the pastels are then made on top of this almost felted colour to produce a combination of softness, depth of colour and firmness of line.	David Davies
	David's Studio	"Although the content of my pictures has changed dramatically over the years, I feel that a distinct relationship can be seen throughout the subject matter. Whether the picture is a face, a landscape, a door or a bird, they can all be read in terms of their main theme or as abstract forms of shape and colour. In fact, it is important to me that they are viewed this way. All pictures are made up of form, colour and subject matter and I try to find a beauty and meaning in each of these." David often takes commissions for special interior projects and is used to working with architects and designers to create art for major public and domestic interiors.
