I am currently working on a series of paintings about those whose lives have influenced, changed, or even transformed others lives, alleviated suffering and brought peace. Some subtle essence of their being may be felt in the paintings. The recent work explores the human form and all physical matter as
translucent, impermanent, dissolving into light and colour. I often
start a painting with wet, fluid paint, and may incorporate the
random, accidental and unexpected movement of paint. When I paint a landscape I aim to capture the evocative mood and atmosphere of a scene that has caught my eye. This is not a intellectual decision rather a spontaneous and intuitive response. Colours can seem more luminous, vibrant and harmonious. I glimpse a jewel like quality that is elusive, it may slip out of sight with a change of light, a cold breeze. Perhaps I wish to catch the peace and beauty I perceive and give it a permanence.
