I am currently returning to some of the ideas in paintings I made in the 1960’s, particularly re- interpreting themes and images from Dante. I suppose in the 1960s my work was more gestural, influenced by Pollock and the abstract expressionists, where as now I am looking at Bosch, Breughel, Guston and also at American comic book artists, using the figuration skills that I acquired in the 1970s.
There are still elements of abstraction in my paintings, but the work relies less on gesture and more on exploring the imagery.
